The Punjab government will present a budget of Rs 5,131 billion for the upcoming fiscal year 2026-27, with total estimated expenditures of the province set at Rs 3,569,600 million.
The budget allocates Rs 650 billion for government salaries and Rs 505,800 million for pensions, with salary increases to follow the decision of the federal government on civil servant pay.
Operational expenditures are estimated at Rs 580,200 million, while the Suthra Punjab sanitation programme has been allocated Rs 150 billion within the overall provincial budget framework.
The social protection sector has been allocated Rs 25 billion, and Rs 221,900 million has been set aside for other programme investments and development initiatives across the province.
Foreign-aided ongoing development projects will receive Rs 54 billion, while Rs 570 billion has been proposed for other development and capital expenditures in the provincial budget.
The health sector has been allocated a total estimated budget of Rs 680 billion, which includes Rs 100 billion specifically for the provision of free medicines to patients.
Education has received the largest single-sector allocation, with the Punjab government proposing to spend more than Rs 900 billion on schools, colleges and universities across the province.
The budget includes laptop, electric scooter and bicycle schemes for students, alongside the Honhar scholarship programme, which has been estimated to cost more than Rs 20 billion.
University grants have been estimated at Rs 18 billion, while the Parwaz Card initiative for youth employment support has been allocated Rs 7 billion in the provincial budget.
The Ramzan relief package has been allocated Rs 35 billion to support low-income households, and subsidies across various sectors are estimated to exceed Rs 80 billion in total.
The Kisan Card agricultural support programme will receive Rs 10 billion, while the Himmat Card for persons with disabilities and the Minorities Card will together receive Rs 3 billion.
