Seven children were feared dead and several others injured on Tuesday after the roof of a tuition centre collapsed in the Kahna area of Lahore, rescue officials said.
A Rescue 1122 spokesperson said seven children were recovered without pulse, raising fears that they had died after being trapped under debris when the roof caved in. He warned that the death toll could exceed 10, citing reports from teams at the site that the condition of the remaining trapped children was critical.
Rescue operations were underway as of the latest update at 6pm, with teams continuing efforts to clear the rubble and reach those still trapped.
The Edhi rescue service said the roof of a room had “collapsed suddenly,” burying between eight and 10 children. Preliminary information suggested the roof had been constructed using TR girders.
Edhi ambulances remained at the site to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured, while rescue operations continued at full pace. Initial reports indicated that around 30 to 35 children were present at the site when the roof collapsed.
