The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to implement the National Curriculum of Pakistan 2026 for matriculation and intermediate classes from the 2027 academic year, making approved textbooks mandatory for all schools across the province.
The Directorate of Curriculum and Teacher Education has issued instructions for implementing the revised curriculum, while the KP Private Schools Regulatory Authority has directed private educational institutions to follow the new requirements.
The revised curriculum will cover English, Urdu, Mathematics, Computer Science, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics for classes 9 to 12. General Science will be included for students in classes 9 and 10 only. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Textbook Board will prepare or revise textbooks according to the updated syllabus, while all educational boards will conduct examinations based on the new curriculum.
Textbooks developed under the revised curriculum will require prior approval from the Directorate of Curriculum and Teacher Education before distribution. Authorities have warned that schools and other institutions failing to comply could face legal action under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Supervision of Curricula, Textbooks and Maintenance of Standards of Education Act, 2011.
