Internet users in Pakistan are facing intermittent service disruptions after a fault developed in the SEA-ME-WE 5 (SMW5) submarine cable system, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said.
The regulator confirmed it is closely monitoring the situation, which has caused degraded connectivity and slower speeds for some users across the country.
Trans World Associates (TWA) is working with the SMW5 Consortium to determine the cause of the fault and establish an estimated time for restoration. Internet traffic is currently being rerouted through alternate international links to limit disruption and maintain service continuity.
PTA said it remains in close coordination with all concerned stakeholders and will continue monitoring developments to facilitate the earliest possible restoration of normal internet services.
Meanwhile, Nayatel has warned customers that they may experience slower internet browsing due to a degradation in an international submarine cable segment.
The company said the issue is affecting international connectivity, while restoration work is currently underway. Nayatel added that its technical teams are coordinating with the upstream provider to restore normal services as quickly as possible.
It did not identify the affected submarine cable or provide an estimated timeline for full restoration.
