The Epic Games Store officially announced its next batch of free games. Starting July 16, users can claim Luto and Echo Generation: Midnight Edition. Together, these two games retail for about $45. However, Epic will offer them for free until July 23.
This promotion marks the 12th consecutive week EGS has given away two games at once. Furthermore, they represent the seventh and eighth free games for July 2026. This count includes Voidwrought and RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition, which carried over from June. Notably, neither game has previously been free on the storefront.
Explore a 1990s Mystery in Echo Generation
Canadian indie studio Cococucumber developed Echo Generation. It is a nostalgic, turn-based RPG. The game follows local kids investigating a small-town summer mystery. Consequently, it strongly evokes the feeling of Stranger Things, despite taking place in the 1990s.
The gameplay focuses heavily on exploration and active turn-based battles. These mechanics closely resemble Final Fantasy and Paper Mario. Moreover, players will manage a party, recruit pet companions, and collect comic books for combat upgrades.
Epic Games will give away the Midnight Edition, which launched in June 2024. This upgraded version adds fast travel, a quest journal, and reworked combat balance. Additionally, it features new status effects, upgraded visuals, camera controls, broader controller support, and 12 new languages. Currently, the game holds a “Strong” 77 average score on OpenCritic across 33 reviews.

Face Your Fears in Luto
The second free game is Luto, a first-person psychological horror title. Spanish indie outlet Broken Bird Games released this game recently in July 2025. In Luto, the main character remains trapped inside their own home. Ultimately, this domestic space shifts into a maze fueled by grief, anxiety, and reality distortions.
Unlike many traditional horror games, Luto avoids combat completely. Instead, the core gameplay loops around environmental puzzle-solving, clue-gathering, and narrative interpretation. The game challenges players using spatial tricks, looping corridors, surreal set pieces, and unsettling sound cues. Because of this, critics often describe Luto as a combination of horror classics like P.T. and Amnesia.

Claim Your Current Epic Games Store Free Games Now
Luto and Echo Generation do not unlock until next week. Right now, EGS users can still claim the current free games. You have until July 16 to grab Nova Lands and Tattoo Tycoon. Together, these current freebies pack a $49.98 value. Therefore, this ongoing bundle beats the upcoming promotion by just five dollars. Make sure to claim them before the store refreshes on July 16.
