Google has expanded its digital skills initiative in Pakistan, increasing the number of available Google Career Certificates to 350,000 as part of efforts to prepare the workforce for an increasingly artificial intelligence (AI)-driven economy.
The expansion includes 150,000 new scholarships introduced this year, providing more learners across Pakistan with access to globally recognised online professional courses.
The program offers training in high-demand fields, including Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, Project Management, Digital Marketing, and E-Commerce. The initiative aims to help individuals gain practical skills that can support employment, freelancing, entrepreneurship, and career growth.
Google said the online nature of the courses is designed to improve accessibility by reducing barriers linked to location, limited training facilities, and the cost of traditional professional education.
Since launching its digital learning efforts in Pakistan in 2022, Google has continued to expand investment in skills development. The latest milestone represents a broader workforce development strategy focused not only on certification but also on helping participants apply digital skills in real-world opportunities.
The program is being supported by local partners, including TechValley, Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC), and the Higher Education Department (HED), along with other stakeholders.
Government institutions have also joined the initiative to strengthen digital capacity. The Ministry of IT & Telecommunication (MoITT) has directed ministry officials to complete two Google Career Certificate courses, aiming to promote the use of AI and digital tools in public sector operations.
The expansion comes as Pakistan continues to focus on digital transformation and developing skilled professionals capable of competing in the global technology economy.
