K-Electric has denied reports circulating on social media that eligibility criteria for the Protected Category of consumers have been changed, and has urged customers to rely only on official channels for information regarding tariffs, consumer categories and billing policies.
The utility, which is the sole power provider for Karachi, said that if an eligible residential Non-Time-of-Use consumer exceeds 200 units of electricity consumption in a single month, their Protected Status is not permanently withdrawn.
Consumers can regain Protected Status if their monthly consumption is limited to 200 units or less for six consecutive months, subject to applicable eligibility criteria.
Separately, K-Electric has urged citizens to remain vigilant as the monsoon season begins across the country, particularly in areas prone to waterlogging.
The company said its operational teams are on alert through centralised monitoring of weather patterns and the power supply situation, and that management is coordinating with civic agencies and the city administration to ensure a timely response as conditions evolve based on Met Office forecasts.
K-Electric said it recognises the challenges rains bring to citizens and reiterated that public safety remains its top priority.
