Karachi-bound PIA flight PK-784 returned to the Pearson International Airport in Toronto after the crew detected a fire warning on a cargo hold panel shortly after takeoff.
According to airport sources, the Boeing 777 was climbing when the cockpit crew received the fire indication and decided to turn back. The captain landed the aircraft roughly 15 minutes after departure.
Fire brigade personnel were positioned on the runway as the aircraft touched down, in line with emergency protocols triggered by the onboard fire alert. The plane was subsequently moved to the parking bay, where fire crews began inspecting the cargo hold.
All passengers aboard the flight were evacuated safely and transferred to the airport lounge. An investigation into the cause of the suspected cargo hold fire is ongoing.
