CM Punjab Meets the Alibaba Cloud Delegation
The high-profile meeting focused heavily on deploying modern tech across critical infrastructure. Officials discussed the active use of AI in agriculture, climate forecasting, and broad socio-economic programs.
Healthcare also took center stage during the talks. CM Maryam Nawaz highlighted that Punjab is currently building the world’s largest public-sector cancer hospital. Going forward, the provincial government plans to integrate AI directly into these health programs to improve service delivery.
Driving Education & Workforce Development
Education remains a major pillar of this technological shift. During the meeting, CM Maryam Nawaz shared her vision of teaching AI to children in government schools. She adopted this idea directly after observing students in Beijing.
Furthermore, Punjab recently made history by becoming the first province to establish a dedicated Artificial Intelligence policy. The province currently boasts the fourth-largest young, skilled workforce globally. To ensure the government keeps pace with this digital economy, the province has already provided AI training to government officials, including members of the provincial cabinet.
A “Today Rather Than Tomorrow” Approach
Alibaba Cloud Senior Vice President Li Jiaping led the Chinese delegation. He briefed the Chief Minister thoroughly on the company’s global operations. Additionally, the meeting covered potential tech initiatives for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) specifically catering to overseas Pakistanis.
Ultimately, CM Maryam Nawaz emphasized a highly proactive approach to tech adoption. She stated:
We are pursuing a policy of using artificial intelligence and other technologies today rather than tomorrow.
She concluded by actively welcoming Chinese cooperation to help transform Punjab into a fully modern, AI-integrated province.
