The free, volunteer-based Destiny 2 mod known as Project Sunrise is recently making incredible progress. Sony and Bungie have completely abandoned Destiny 2. Currently, the looter-shooter receives zero updates. Furthermore, the game does not even exist in an official maintenance mode. Recently, Bungie actually disabled new armor sets. These included items from the recent Monument of Triumph update. The company simply lacks the dedicated team and resources to fix them. Additionally, Bungie has not released a final TWID post. The official Destiny 2 Team account only vaguely hinted at potential future fixes. These fixes depend entirely on the remaining staff finding enough time.
Despite this massive neglect, the community remains surprisingly active. Almost three months after the massive June 9 update, Destiny 2 still holds around 30,000 concurrent players daily on Steam. Moreover, remaining players have only until today, September 1, to grab an unobtainable god roll. After today, the game will remove it forever.
Project Sunrise Revives Lost Destiny 2 Content
While official development stalls, the community refuses to quit. The free, volunteer-based mod known as Project Sunrise is making incredible progress. Originally, developers conceived this project strictly as an exploration mod for vaulted locations. Now, it boasts working quests, achievements, loadouts, and a fully playable Leviathan Raid.
Yesterday, developer Millie (@Nyxaraaaa) revealed another massive breakthrough on X. Project Sunrise now officially supports working Season Passes and Artifact perks. According to the developer, Season Pass visibility and reward claiming currently work as intended. Players simply need to ignore a silly “queuez banner” bug while the team finds a workaround.

Furthermore, players can purchase Artifact perks, calculate points from seasonal XP, and freely refund them. Champion mods successfully apply to weapons. However, the developer still needs to fix a bug causing them to remain permanent after a reset. Additionally, the Artifact power bonus currently does not apply.

A Fast-Paced Resurrection
Project Sunrise is evolving at an unprecedented pace. The core mod launched just over two weeks ago without NPCs or quests. Today, it progresses so rapidly that it could essentially become the full game within a couple of months. Developer Nyxaraaaa already has Shadowkeep quests functioning smoothly inside the mod. Consequently, this promises a highly faithful recreation of the beloved Season of Arrivals.
Naturally, fans cannot transfer anything earned within the mod back to Bungie’s live servers. Everything unlocked remains strictly confined to Project Sunrise. Nevertheless, this project successfully recovers desperately needed media previously considered lost forever. Interestingly, this passion extends beyond Destiny 2. Another dedicated fan is currently developing a Destiny 1 PC port.
