Now, Blizzard has officially revealed the next big steps for Overwatch, unveiling a new hero, ‘Doctrine’, and a ‘Sombra’ rework.
Overwatch Unveils ‘Doctrine’: The New Vampire Support Hero
First, Blizzard announced a brand-new Support hero named ‘Doctrine’. An animated short revealed his origin story. Doomfist, Sombra, Widowmaker, and Reaper worked together to free Doctrine and recruit him to their cause.
Doctrine is a vampire. Therefore, he naturally possesses the ability to take flight. He wields a powerful scepter. He uses this weapon to simultaneously heal allies and damage enemies. Additionally, Doctrine can rush through the battlefield cloaked in darkness. During this rush, his bat drones heal teammates and boost their attack speeds.
Players can try him right now. His hero trial went live yesterday. However, Doctrine officially joins the permanent roster next month when Season 5 begins.
Massive Reworks for ‘Sombra’ & ‘Roadhog’
Season 5 will also introduce a brand-new map. Furthermore, Blizzard confirmed major reworks for two highly controversial characters.
First, developers are tweaking ‘Roadhog’. He will soon assist his teammates much better. Consequently, he is receiving a nerf. Players will no longer be able to execute his notorious ‘hook and one-hit-kill’ combo.
Meanwhile, ‘Sombra’ is getting an even more dramatic overhaul. Blizzard is completely retooling her into a “Support” hero. This massive change will definitely shake up the current gameplay experience.
Overwatch Spotlight & TV Show Teases
Finally, Blizzard wrapped up the presentation with future plans. The developers announced the next Overwatch Spotlight event. This showcase takes place in February 2027. It will reveal new story details, fresh heroes, and brand-new gameplay systems.
Beyond the game, Blizzard teased exciting multimedia projects. They announced a Diablo animated series for Netflix. During that announcement, they also hinted that an Overwatch TV show or movie might finally materialize. Fans have waited years for this exact news. Hopefully, the final product lives up to expectations.
