Honor has introduced the Magic9 Pro Max as its latest top-end Android flagship. The phone combines high-end hardware with a strong focus on mobile photography and video. It comes with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset and dual 200MP cameras. The phone also packs an 8,800mAh Si-C battery with 100W wired charging and 80W wireless charging.
Honor is also pushing the Magic9 Pro Max toward professional video production. The company has expanded its partnership with German camera maker ARRI for the phone’s camera system.
Magic9 Pro Max Gets Three High-Resolution Cameras
The Magic9 Pro Max features a new 23mm-equivalent 200MP main camera. It uses a 1/1.28-inch sensor with an f/1.6 aperture for better light capture. The main camera is joined by an 85mm-equivalent 200MP periscope telephoto camera. It uses a 1/1.4-inch sensor and supports 3.7x optical zoom.
A 12mm-equivalent 50MP ultrawide camera completes the setup. Together, the three cameras cover wide, standard, and telephoto shooting. Both the main and telephoto cameras support CIPA 8.0 stabilization. Honor describes the system as offering “gimbal-level” image stabilization.
ARRI Features Target Professional Video
Honor has brought ARRI’s image science into all three camera sensors. The system also includes ARRI color profiles and cinematic video filters. The filters can change the camera’s color grading with a single tap. They are designed to recreate the look of ARRI’s cinematic cameras.
The phone can also record using the ARRI LogC3 Curve. This supports full 10-bit color depth for video recording. Users can additionally record footage in ARRI’s Wide Gamut 3 color space. These features give creators more flexibility during video editing and color grading.
Honor is also selling an optional teleconverter kit. It includes a 500mm lens attachment for longer-range shots. The company has even introduced a handheld SmallRig camera cage. It includes mounting points for accessories such as grips, LED flashes, and microphones.
6.8-Inch OLED Display
Beyond the cameras, the Magic9 Pro Max features a 6.8-inch LTPO OLED display. It has a 1,320 x 2,868px resolution and a variable 1-120Hz refresh rate. The panel reaches a global peak brightness of 2,000 nits. It can also reach 10,000 nits locally during HDR video playback.
The 10,000-nit figure applies only to an isolated area of the display. Honor has also updated its NanoCrystal Shield protection. The new protection adds extra silicon nitride layers. An anti-reflective coating is also included to improve outdoor visibility.
MagicOS 11 and Large Battery
The Magic9 Pro Max runs MagicOS 11, which is based on Android 17. The phone also carries an IP69K rating for protection against water and dust. Power comes from an 8,800mAh Si-C battery. It supports 100W wired charging and 80W wireless charging.
The combination gives the Magic9 Pro Max one of the larger batteries among high-end Android phones. It also adds fast charging to the flagship’s hardware package.
