The National CERT has warned citizens about fake websites impersonating major Pakistani government and public sector institutions to steal login credentials and other sensitive information.
According to the National CERT’s Threat Intelligence Centre, several active phishing websites were found impersonating institutions including NADRA, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and the Higher Education Commission (HEC). A suspicious website targeting NADRA users for credential theft was detected on October 4, while similar threats were identified using the names of PTA, FIA, DG Immigration & Passports, SECP, BISP and the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme.
National CERT said the identified websites had threat scores ranging from 87% to 99% on its monitoring platform. Another suspicious website was found impersonating Punjab Safe Cities. The authority has advised citizens to verify website addresses before entering passwords or other sensitive information and avoid clicking suspicious links or using unverified login pages.
