US authorities have announced a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Faheem Akram, a resident of Khanewal, Punjab. Authorities have advised the public not to attempt to apprehend him themselves and instead report any information about his whereabouts to law enforcement agencies.
Faheem Akram, 33, is an IT professional and software engineer who has been indicted in the US state of Florida. According to US authorities, he operated a website that allegedly sold counterfeit postage stamps and shipping labels to customers in the United States. The scheme reportedly caused approximately $126 million in losses to the US Postal Service.
Investigators allege that more than 5 million counterfeit postage stamps were sold to over 5,200 customers through the website. The platform allegedly offered cheaper postage without properly determining factors such as the destination and weight of packages. US authorities have since shut down and seized the website.
Khanewal District Police Officer Abid Waraich said Akram is a resident of Khanewal city and has a background in software engineering. According to police officials, he had allegedly been involved in similar online fraud in Pakistan previously, although no case had been registered against him in the country. Authorities suspect that he may currently be abroad, but his exact whereabouts remain unknown.
