BYD is exploring the introduction of its next-generation ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) charging technology in Pakistan in discussions with Mega Motor Company. The potential rollout will depend on local infrastructure readiness, stakeholder consultations, and the company’s future vehicle plans, according to BYD Vice President Liu Xueliang.
The technology combines BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery with its FLASH Charging system, which can deliver up to 1,500kW through a single connector. According to BYD, compatible vehicles can charge from 10% to 70% in five minutes and from 10% to 97% in nine minutes. At temperatures as low as -30°C, the system can charge a compatible vehicle from 20% to 97% in 12 minutes.
However, these charging speeds apply to vehicles designed for BYD’s new battery and charging platform and should not be expected across all BYD models currently available in Pakistan. Actual charging speeds depend on a vehicle’s battery architecture and maximum supported charging rate. Existing BYD vehicles may be compatible with future charging infrastructure but will not necessarily achieve the system’s maximum speeds.
The discussions come as BYD advances its broader expansion plans in Pakistan. Liu said the company’s local vehicle assembly facility is targeted to begin operations in the second half of 2026. The plant is designed to produce around 25,000 vehicles annually, with the capacity to expand to 50,000 units per year.
The proposed ultra-fast charging network could support the adoption of electric and electrified vehicles in Pakistan. However, BYD has not announced a confirmed launch date for the charging infrastructure or local vehicle production, with both developments dependent on further progress and local requirements.
