Robot training data startup Maxinsights has successfully raised $30M in seed funding to expand its operations. Peak XV led the investment round, with additional backing from Tola Capital, South Park Commons, INCE Capital, and Alumni Ventures. The Santa Clara based company plans to use the capital to scale its data collection platform for artificial intelligence developers.
Unlike text-based models that learn from existing internet archives, robotics developers face a severe shortage of real-world training data. Founder and chief executive Yuguang Yuan noted that large language models learned to write because humans spent decades populating the internet with text. Robots lack a similar archive showing everyday physical tasks from a first-person perspective.
“We built the whole pipeline ourselves, from the hand-tracking models to the platform that scores every operator’s footage as it arrives, because nobody was going to sell us the pieces that make messy real-world data usable,” said Yuguang (YG) Yuan, founder and CEO of Maxinsights. “Robots get deployed into real kitchens, not staged ones, and something unexpected happens every few minutes. Edge cases are the job, and the only way to get them is to record real work in real homes. Collecting one great hour of data is easy, and holding quality across millions of hours and thousands of people is what we built the company to do.”
To solve this gap, Maxinsights employs more than 5,000 contractors across six countries. These workers wear specialized head, wrist, and chest cameras while performing routine activities like washing cars, cooking meals, and cleaning homes. The startup captures natural human movement at normal speeds rather than staging tasks in artificial lab environments.
The company has captured over two million hours of footage to date, with millions of clips processed through its automated quality control software, MaxLoop. This system evaluates incoming video feeds daily to ensure high standards while cutting review costs significantly.
Furthermore, the startup has partnered with developers to build MaxGlove, a specialized sensor glove designed to measure grip force and object weight in sync with visual data. As physical AI investments accelerate globally, platforms like Maxinsights provide essential foundations for next-generation robotic systems.
