The federal government has advanced a Rs. 13.323 billion solar energy scheme aimed at providing off-grid electricity to households in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s newly merged districts. The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has cleared the Prime Minister’s Solar Scheme and referred it to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for final approval.
The initiative aims to provide solar power systems to households in targeted areas, allowing them to access electricity independently of the conventional power grid. The scheme was among 14 development projects reviewed by the CDWP at a meeting chaired by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, with the projects carrying a combined estimated cost of Rs. 226.48 billion.
The solar project will require ECNEC’s approval before moving to the next stage.
