Pakistan’s first fee-free, residential university, Akhuwat University will begin its operations on 14th of August this month in Kasur.
This initiative was taken by Akhuwat-world’s leading Islamic microfinance organization that provides interest free loans in Pakistan. Akhuwat University aims to provide state of the art education with modern facilities to underprivileged students all over Pakistan.
The university will be operational tomorrow with 600 students enrolled for three different masters degrees. The students who were selected had an average monthly household income of Rs. 25,000 PKR or below.
The executive director of Akhuwat, Dr. Amjad Saqib said that underprivileged can complete their education for free. Once these students graduate and have good jobs, they can give back to the university allowing others to complete their education for free as well.
He also believes that education is the solution to all the problems.
At present Akhuwat is running a fee-free college in Lahore that houses 300 students from all over Pakistan. The college offers pre-medical, pre-engineering and ICT courses. The admission is merit-based and 20% of students have come to study here from each province.
