The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has taken decisive action to enforce election integrity. The Chief Election Commissioner of AJK has ordered the immediate seizure of electric buses distributed during the ongoing election period. The commission formally declared that providing these vehicles directly violates the election code of conduct.
The Election Commission strictly prohibits the use of government resources during an active election campaign. Furthermore, the election code completely bans the announcement or distribution of any new development schemes, public facilities, or gifts while the election period is underway.
Consequently, the AJK Election Commission has directed relevant authorities to take these electric buses into official custody. The commission made it clear that they will not tolerate any breach of these established rules. The distribution of these electric buses quickly became a controversial flashpoint on the campaign trail. These vehicles are closely associated with an initiative launched by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
Unsurprisingly, opposition parties immediately criticized the move. They described the sudden provision of these electric buses as a calculated stunt designed to gain an unfair political advantage during the election cycle.
The AJK Election Commission remains committed to delivering free, fair, and transparent elections. To achieve this, the Chief Election Commissioner issued a stern warning to all participating political parties. He explicitly cautioned them against leveraging state resources for electoral gains.
