Apple Reveals Launch Date for iOS 18.4

In late January, Apple rolled out iOS 18.3, its most recent major software update. While the first beta of iOS 18.4 has yet to be released, Apple has already provided a tentative timeframe for its public rollout.

According to Apple, iOS 18.4 is set to launch in early April—a rare early announcement from the company, which typically keeps software release dates under wraps.

Apple initially hinted at an April update during the Apple Intelligence announcement in October, suggesting the introduction of additional AI language support. Based on past release patterns and reports from Mark Gurman, many speculated that iOS 18.4 would arrive in April and now, Apple has made it official.

Recent updates to Apple’s website, as reported by MacRumors, confirm that iOS 18.4 will roll out in early April. While the term “early” gives Apple some flexibility, it is likely the update will arrive before mid-month.

A release during the week of April 7 seems most probable, though Apple could still push it to Monday, April 14, while staying within the “early April” window. Either way, the iOS 18.4 update is just around the corner.

What’s New in iOS 18.4? Expected Features Revealed

For some time now, Mark Gurman has reported that significant Siri enhancements are planned for iOS 18.4. Apple is expected to introduce three key AI-powered upgrades for Siri:

• Expanded App Actions: Siri will be able to perform hundreds of new tasks within Apple apps without requiring users to open them. Third-party apps will also gain this functionality through App Intents.
• Personalized Context: Siri will leverage personal data, such as text messages and past calendar events, to provide smarter, more relevant assistance.
• Onscreen Awareness: Siri will recognize what’s displayed on the screen, allowing users to issue commands related to what they’re viewing.

While Gurman had initially been confident about these features arriving in iOS 18.4, he recently cast doubt on their rollout.

In his latest update, he revealed that Apple is considering delaying or scaling back some of these Siri improvements until iOS 18.5, which could launch as early as May. The reason? Internal testers at Apple have reported that certain features aren’t yet working reliably, and with the deadline approaching, Apple may need more time to refine them.

As a result, it’s unclear whether iOS 18.4 will introduce all, some, or none of these Siri upgrades. It’s possible that some improvements will make the cut, while others get pushed to iOS 18.5.
