The Nintendo Switch 2 continues to build a massive horror library. Yesterday, French developer Atlantis Studio officially revealed its debut project. The studio will launch Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch exclusively on the Switch 2 in 2026. This brand-new title promises a unique asymmetrical co-op horror experience that tests your ability to communicate under pressure.

Communication is Survival in Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch
Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch forces players to work together. In fact, it is an entirely co-op-only experience. You simply cannot play this game alone.
During gameplay, one player wakes up trapped inside a claustrophobic haunted house. Meanwhile, a stalker-type enemy relentlessly hunts them. Consequently, the first player must find a way to escape. However, they do not do this blindly. A second player actively guides them from a completely different perspective.
Therefore, communication becomes your most critical tool. Good instructions will successfully guide the trapped player out. Conversely, bad instructions will break the entire escape attempt. Ultimately, the developers blend the communication-heavy mechanics of “It Takes Two” and “Split Fiction” with the tense atmosphere of “Phasmophobia”. Currently, Atlantis Studio has not confirmed whether the game will feature a “friend pass” system or not to allow two people to play from a single purchase.
Switch 2: The New Home for Horror
Since its launch in 2025, the Switch 2 has consistently attracted major horror franchises. Third-party studios aggressively port their biggest hits to Nintendo’s powerful hardware. For instance, Konami’s “Silent Hill f”, Capcom’s “Resident Evil Requiem”, and Bloober Team’s “Cronos: The New Dawn” have already made their way to the console. Furthermore, Bloober Team is developing another Switch 2 exclusive horror game built specifically to utilize the new hardware.
Asymmetrical horror games like “Dead by Daylight” and “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” remain massive hits. Now, Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch aims to mesh that horror formula with the rising popularity of communication-first co-op games.
Fierce Competition in 2026
Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch currently lacks a firm release date. However, the game’s theme suggests a potential Halloween launch window. If so, Atlantis Studio will face intense competition.
The Fall 2026 release schedule looks absolutely stacked. Nintendo will release its highly anticipated “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time” remake. Additionally, FromSoftware will launch its own highly hyped Switch 2 exclusive, “The Duskbloods”. Therefore, this debut co-op horror game must deliver a flawless experience to carve out its place in a crowded market.
