Cambridge Exams Cancelled Over Security Concerns

Cambridge International, in coordination with the British Council, has cancelled all scheduled Cambridge O Level, IGCSE, and International AS & A Level exams for Friday, May 9, in Muzaffarabad, Mirpur (AJK), Islamabad, and across Punjab province.

This decision affects both Cambridge Direct and British Council Schools. It follows a detailed review of the prevailing security situation in these areas.

In a joint statement issued Thursday, officials explained:

“Our priority is to support the safety of students and staff, and help students progress with their education.”

Examinations scheduled for the same day in other parts of Pakistan will continue unless the situation deteriorates. Authorities emphasized that they are closely monitoring developments and are committed to updating students and schools promptly:

“We will keep everyone updated if there are any changes.”

Fair Grading Assurance for Cancelled Exams

To address concerns of affected candidates, Cambridge confirmed the use of “expertise and well-established processes to make sure we can award fair grades so that students can progress.

For those appearing in exams scheduled for Monday, May 12, an official update is expected by Sunday evening. This will account for any changes in the security environment.

Candidates, whether from schools or private registrations, have been urged to stay connected to Cambridge and British Council Pakistan’s official platforms for authentic information.

The statement advised:

“If you have any questions, please contact your school, or British Council Customer Services if you are a private candidate.”
