Capcom is finally gearing up to announce the release date for ‘Onimusha: Way of the Sword’. Instead of dropping a standard press release, the publisher orchestrated a cross-promotional Twitter “hack”. Yesterday, May 1, the official Onimusha account featured unexpected posts from “Diana”, a protagonist from Capcom’s recent blockbuster, ‘Pragmata’.
The Pragmata Twitter “Hack”
Diana initially took over the timeline to test a “modern kids Japanese language module”. She tweeted modern youth slang, translating roughly to:
Japan has so many cute things, I love it. The moon is just too empty now.
Subsequently, Diana claimed she found a data module containing the Onimusha: Way of the Sword release date. However, before she could download and leak the file, her partner, Hugh, interrupted her. She then signed off with:
Well then everyone, goodbye!
Consequently, fans are now expecting an imminent official announcement from the publisher.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword Will NOT Be A Soulslike Game
This upcoming title marks the first mainline entry since 2006’s ‘Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams’. Capcom originally announced the project at The Game Awards 2024. Meanwhile, the franchise previously survived solely through remasters and a 2025 VR title, ‘Onimusha VR: Shadow Team’.
Now, Capcom wants to heavily distance this revival from the saturated Soulslike market. Therefore, the developers are actively avoiding punishing difficulty. Instead, they are evolving the franchise’s classic Resident Evil-inspired mechanics. The game will directly emphasize dark action-horror thrills and exciting cinematic sword combat.
A Sizzling 2026 for Capcom
Back in March, Capcom confirmed the game was in its “final stages of development”. With Summer Game Fest approaching this June, a full reveal is highly likely. Furthermore, Capcom is riding a massive wave of commercial momentum this year.
Pragmata already achieved critical success, selling one million copies in just two days. Paired with the recent triumph of ‘Resident Evil: Requiem’, the publisher is strategically using its current smash hits to drag the dormant Onimusha franchise back into the spotlight.
