Recently, Habib Bank Limited (HBL) enabled to accept credit and debit cards through an HBL initiated service mPOS (Mobile POS). This service is said to replace the “cash-on-delivery” with a more safe and secure payment method, “card-on-delivery”. It was not clearly mentioned whether “cash-on-delivery” service will be completely replaced or not but for now, the mobile app has only credit or debit card option available.’s co-founder Farees Shah said on the launch of the application,

Mobile is obviously a key driver of e-commerce growth in Pakistan and we are extremely excited at launching our state of the art and user-friendly mobile app. With the rollout of 3G/4G technology in Pakistan we believe a large segment of the population which wasn’t previously online from their laptops or desktops will now be online via their phones and we want to be there for them to kick start their online shopping journey.

Furthermore, app has coupled with popular smartphones and affordable mobile internet packages to capture a massive audience throughout the country. As we all know that Pakistan currently has around 30 million internet users and this figure is expected to go up to at least 100 million users in the next couple of months. Mobile commerce can help further expand its market share and reiterate its position as a monopoly in the online shopping sphere.
