id Software has officially unveiled DOOM: The Dark Ages | Revelations. The developer showcased the major expansion during the Xbox Games Showcase. The DLC drops on Tuesday, July 7, across all platforms that currently support the base game.
Game director Hugo Martin previously teased the expansion in a February video update. He called it “huge” and “basically like a sequel” to the 2025 first-person shooter. Now, players finally have the exact details.

DOOM: The Dark Ages | Revelations Story & Enhanced Mobility
Revelations takes place inside a dangerous purgatory located within the mind of the Doom Slayer. The Slayer enters this prison with a broken and damaged arsenal. Consequently, he joins forces with a mysterious ally to survive. The main objective tasks the Doom Slayer with fighting “an abomination of the gods” to set his followers on the correct path.
Gameplay is also getting a massive shift. The base game focused heavily on grounded combat. Instead, the Revelations expansion adds extra mobility to the Doom Slayer’s kit.
Furthermore, id Software is introducing a completely new weapon called the Chain Spear. The Slayer can use the Chain Spear to parry incoming bullets, strike enemies at close range, and throw it like a javelin. Players can smoothly wield it alongside established weapons like the Super Shotgun, Skullcrusher, and Chainshot.
Pricing, Game Pass & Free Updates
Players who already own the Premium Edition or Collectors Bundle will receive DOOM: The Dark Ages | Revelations at no additional cost. Alternatively, users who own the base version can purchase the standalone expansion for $19.99. They can also choose to upgrade to the Premium Edition for $34.99.
The expansion is fully part of the Xbox Play Anywhere program. Therefore, purchasing it once gives players access across both PC and Xbox consoles. However, PC and Xbox Game Pass subscribers will need to purchase the DLC separately.
Alongside the expansion launch, id Software is releasing a free Ripatorium content update for all base game owners. This update introduces improved customization options. Finally, players who purchase the Revelations DLC and beat the main story will unlock three exclusive new maps and weapons to use in the Ripatorium.
