The Regional Tax Office (RTO) Sahiwal has recovered Rs. 4 million from the popular pizza brand Cheezious. This enforcement action targeted the Sahiwal branch over alleged tax evasion. Consequently, authorities deposited the recovered penalty directly into the national exchequer.
The Revenue Division issued an official statement regarding this crackdown on May 30, 2026. Furthermore, the operation took place legally under Section 175C of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.
Massive Sales Discrepancies Uncovered
Initially, RTO Sahiwal deployed a dedicated monitoring team directly to the Cheezious premises. The team closely observed the daily business activity on the ground. During this monitoring process, officials detected a massive discrepancy.
Specifically, the authorities noted huge irregularities between the restaurant’s declared turnover and its actual, real-time sales figures. Following these findings, the FBR initiated immediate enforcement proceedings. Therefore, the FBR ordered Cheezious to pay the Rs. 4 million penalty.
Cheezious Denies the Allegations
Meanwhile, Cheezious strongly pushed back against the FBR’s claims. When asked for an official response prior to the news breaking on May 31, Cheezious representatives stated that the allegations are “not 100% true”.
Furthermore, the brand completely shifted the blame. Cheezious claims the discrepancy is actually an “error at FBR’s end”. Currently, the restaurant’s management is in active talks with the FBR. Ultimately, they want the tax authority to take down the public post detailing the enforcement action.
FBR Stands Firm on Compliance
Despite the brand’s denial, the FBR stands firmly by its operation. The Chief Commissioner of RTO Sahiwal publicly appreciated the enforcement team’s performance.
Additionally, he reaffirmed that the FBR will continue these aggressive actions. The authority aims to ensure better tax compliance and strictly safeguard national revenue collection. Moving forward, the FBR emphasized its total commitment to strengthening the business documentation culture. Finally, it plans to expand the tax base and take strict action against any business practice causing financial losses to the national treasury.
