Around 50,732 tax and customs cases worth approximately Rs. 5.7 trillion remain pending across various courts and tribunals, freezing a massive amount of crucial state revenue.
According to Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) sources, appellate tribunals hold the highest volume of litigation with 27,621 cases involving an outstanding total of Rs. 3.383 trillion.
Furthermore, collector adjudication officers are currently processing 2,155 cases valued at Rs. 58,300 million, while collector appeals handle 322 cases worth Rs. 46,300 million in total.
The Supreme Court of Pakistan is managing 3,961 tax and customs cases worth Rs. 184,000 million, alongside thousands of other lawsuits distributed across provincial high courts.
Specifically, the Lahore High Court has 8,232 cases worth Rs. 977,000 million, while the Sindh High Court schedules 5,521 pending disputes valued at Rs. 558,000 million.
Finally, the Islamabad High Court holds 2,210 cases worth Rs. 492,000 million, Peshawar has 528 cases worth 28,000 million, and Balochistan faces 186 cases worth 8,000 million.
