FIA arrests a medical student for harassing girls online

The Cyber Crime Wing of Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) has arrested a medical student from Nowshehra Medical College on the accusation of harassing girls online and extorting money after befriending them on Facebook.

FIA’s Deputy Director Shahid Hassan informed the media that the second year medical student was arrested by FIA in response to a complaint filed by a girl. He said that the girl accused the guy of harassing her and blackmailing her to extort money.

Shahid further said that the boy had created multiple fake accounts on Facebook through which he was harassing and blackmailing girls online. He said many predators befriend girls on different social media platforms and ask for their pictures and videos which they later alter in objectionable form to blackmail those girls for money.

He highlighted various cases where girls took their lives on facing such miserable conditions and felt helpless. These girls out of fear were not able to tell their families about the whole blackmailing episode.

He further added that FIA has been conducting various raids on gangs involved in online betting on sports. The money earned or lost through online betting is sent and received via illegal and prohibited channels.

Shahid also warned the people by highlighting the case where two people were arrested by the FIA for their involvement in betting on sports online. The arrested were betting via mobile phone applications and three laptops. Around 25 mobile phones have been seized during such raids.
