VR is the next big thing in gaming and Rematch Studios is up for the challenge. The Karachi based studio has now unveiled Pakistan’s first ever large scale VR game, Area of Darkness: Sentinel.

The thriller/adventure game, set in the 1970s, sees you play as the Dr.Anne Evans, an archeologist. You will travel from New York to one of the most isolated places in the world, the Sentinel Island. You can expect to see some mysterious creatures along the way.

While providing a good VR experience has been the most important goal, the Steam page for the game places a great deal of importance on the story. People interested in exploring the lore will be able to find voiced journal entries.

Not only that, you will be able to craft your own story. Your decisions will have an impact on your ending. The animations were produced by an Emmy nominated animation director.

The game uses motion based combat system. It will also have unique puzzles that can be approached from multiple ways. From what we know so far, the game is promising to put a lot of decision power in the hands of the user, something if done right, can be quite fun.

There have been many Pakistani developers making VR games for mobile phones. Many have made VR games for PCs too, both as research and at semi-commercial level. But Area of Darkness is the first large scale VR game developed by a Pakistani studio which will be made available on Steam and sold worldwide.

As the game is set in Virtual Reality, you will need to have a high-end PC with at least GTX 970 to get good experience. In addition to that, you will also need to have a VR headset to play the game. The game will be available on Steam in February 2019.
