The Kutchery Chowk remodeling project in Rawalpindi is expected to open for traffic next week, with authorities preparing to make the busy intersection signal-free through newly constructed flyovers and underpasses.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Farhan Aslam said the project is likely to become operational on Tuesday next week, bringing long-awaited relief to thousands of commuters who have faced disruptions since construction began in November 2025.
During the construction phase, traffic was diverted to alternate routes, leading to delays, higher fuel consumption, increased vehicle maintenance costs, and dust-related issues in surrounding areas, including the district courts and Police Lines headquarters.
CTO Farhan Aslam said traffic flow at Kutchery Chowk is expected to improve significantly after the opening, particularly for daily commuters using the intersection.
He added that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is expected to inaugurate the project next week.
Authorities have also completed two pedestrian bridges, including one connecting the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) building with the district courts gate on Jhelum Road, and another linking Fatima Jinnah Women University with the Adiala Road bus stand.
Officials estimate that more than 250,000 vehicles will pass through Kutchery Chowk daily once the project becomes fully operational, with traffic expected to move smoothly without signals or major congestion.
