Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb announced during the FY2026-27 budget speech at Parliament House that digital banking users in Pakistan have reached 133 million.
The minister said the number of digital banking users has risen significantly, growing from 95 million to 133 million as part of the Digital Pakistan and financial inclusion agenda.
He said the rise in banking users has strengthened the foundation for promoting digital transactions and advancing a cashless economy across the country.
The minister revealed that 1.677 million merchants have now joined the digital payment system, compared to only 0.5 million merchants who were registered in the previous year.
He said annual digital transactions have grown from 6.9 billion to 10.1 billion, reflecting a substantial increase in the adoption of digital financial services nationwide.
The minister further said that 92 percent of remittances received in Pakistan are now being deposited directly into bank accounts through formal digital banking channels.
He added that 75 percent of government-to-person payments are now being processed through the digital system, marking a significant shift in public financial service delivery.
