The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Higher Education Department has rolled out a Student e-Attendance System in degree colleges across the province, allowing parents to receive SMS alerts on their children’s daily attendance, including which classes they missed.
Provincial Minister for Higher Education and Local Government Meena Khan Afridi inaugurated the system on Thursday at a ceremony held at Government Degree College. The event was attended by representatives of Zong Telecom, the Secretary and Director of Higher Education, along with teachers and students.
On the occasion, the Higher Education Department and Zong signed MoU to implement the digital attendance system.
Speaking at the ceremony, Afridi said the SMS-based system would keep parents regularly informed of their children’s attendance record. He said the initiative was part of the department’s broader digital transformation drive aimed at modernizing higher education, noting that an e-transfer system and a university ranking system had already been introduced.
The minister also announced a hard-area allowance for teachers serving in remote and difficult regions, describing it as additional support for those posted in such locations. He further announced the construction of a state-of-the-art hall at Government Degree College Peshawar to provide students with improved educational facilities.
