Google is expanding its Android Parental Controls feature beyond its latest Pixel lineup, bringing it to more devices with Android 17. The feature was first introduced alongside the Pixel 10 series last year. It is now set to reach a wider range of Android phones globally.
The update focuses on improving digital well-being for children. It also gives parents stronger tools to manage how their kids use smartphones. These controls are already built into the Android Settings menu for easy access.
Parents can monitor screen time through a simple dashboard. They can also set daily limits for apps and overall device use. In addition, they are able to create a downtime schedule to restrict phone use during specific hours.
For example, a device can be automatically locked at night. This helps ensure children are not using their phones during sleep time. Moreover, parents can block specific apps completely if needed.

The system also includes filters for apps available on Google Play. This allows parents to control what their children can download or use. Time limits can also be applied to individual apps for better control.
In addition, Android Parental Controls offer a direct setup path for Google Family Link. This tool provides more advanced remote management features for parents. It includes School Time mode, which limits distractions during study hours.
Parents can also approve or block app downloads through Google Play using Family Link. Location alerts are available as well, giving parents updates on their child’s whereabouts. These features work together to improve safety and supervision.
Both Android Parental Controls and Google Family Link will roll out to devices upgrading to Android 17. The expansion marks a wider push by Google to strengthen family-focused digital tools across its ecosystem.
