Google Experiments With New Chrome Feature To Simplify Web Pages

Google is testing a new feature in Chrome for Android that allows users to declutter web pages with a single tap, providing a distraction-free reading experience.

As reported by MSPowerUser, the feature, called “Reader Mode Dev Entry Point,” is currently in the experimental phase and can be enabled through a Chrome settings flag. Once activated, it introduces a “Show simplified view” option in Chrome’s menu, giving users more control over their browsing experience.

Unlike the existing Simplified View, which only appears when Chrome detects a compatible page, this new feature lets users manually activate Reader Mode at any time. Stripping away ads, sidebars, and pop-ups, ensures that only the core text and images remain, creating a cleaner reading environment.

Powered by Chrome’s DOM Distiller tool, the feature enhances accessibility by offering adjustable text and layout options, benefiting users with visual impairments or reading difficulties.

Although Google has positioned this as a developer-focused tool, growing user demand suggests it could soon become a standard feature. If widely adopted, it could significantly improve the readability of web content, making browsing more user-friendly and accessible.
