Google Photos Introduces “Undo Device Backup” Feature for Android Users

Google Photos is rolling out a much-anticipated update for Android users, bringing a new feature that offers greater control over backed-up photos and videos. Originally launched for iOS, the “Undo Device Backup” option is now making its way to Android, allowing users to manage their cloud storage more efficiently.

This new feature enables users to remove photos and videos from Google’s cloud storage without deleting the copies saved on their devices. Once the cloud backup is erased, the automatic Backup feature will be turned off for that particular device. This provides users with a simple way to free up cloud space while keeping their files intact locally.

How to Use the “Undo Device Backup” Feature in Google Photos

If you want to delete your Google Photos backup while keeping your media on your device, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Photos app on your Android phone.
  2. Tap your profile picture or initial in the top right corner.
  3. Navigate to Photos Settings and then Backup.
  4. Scroll down and select Undo backup for this device.
  5. Check the confirmation box: “I understand my photos and videos from this device will be deleted from Google Photos.”
  6. Tap Delete Google Photos backup to finalize the process.

With this update, Android users now have the flexibility to manage their backed-up content more efficiently, giving them more control over their cloud storage without losing files stored on their devices.
