Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has directed the National Highway Authority (NHA) to accelerate the expansion of the Pindi Bhattian-Faisalabad section of the M-4 Motorway from four lanes to six.
The minister set December 15 as the target for completing the expansion and instructed officials to speed up construction work to meet the deadline.
Khan issued the directives while chairing a meeting to review development projects under the NHA Central Region. Officials briefed the minister on the progress of various motorway and national highway projects.
The minister directed authorities to ensure that all schemes are completed within their approved timelines and ordered steps to remove delays and improve construction progress.
The meeting also reviewed work on the Lodhran-Multan Expressway. Khan instructed officials to accelerate initial work on the Lala Musa Bypass along the N-5 National Highway.
Officials also discussed the planned rehabilitation of the Baba Farid Bridge over the River Sutlej. The minister was informed that repair and rehabilitation work would begin soon.
Several road projects in South Punjab were also reviewed, including plans to connect the Layyah and Taunsa bridges with nearby highways.
Khan further directed the NHA to maintain high construction standards at the Phool Nagar Interchange on the N-5 and emphasized that new infrastructure should be designed according to modern requirements.
He also called for improved lighting, better road facilities, and properly developed rest areas along new highways, citing the Islamabad-Murree Expressway as a model for future infrastructure development.
