Apple’s standard iPhone 18 could receive major performance and battery upgrades next year. A new leak from a well-known Chinese tipster on Weibo points to two significant improvements.
Apple changed its usual launch schedule this year by announcing only the iPhone 18 Pro models. However, reports suggest the standard iPhone 18 models will arrive in early 2027. The wait could bring some notable hardware improvements.
According to the leak, the iPhone 18 will feature a larger battery. This should improve battery life alongside a more efficient chipset. The phone is also expected to use a toned-down version of Apple’s A20 chip. It will reportedly be built using TSMC’s 2nm manufacturing process.
However, not every upgrade will make it to the standard models. The smaller Dynamic Island is expected to remain exclusive to the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. This means the regular iPhone 18 could retain the current Dynamic Island design.
Pricing could also become a concern for buyers. The upcoming iPhone 18 is reportedly expected to cost slightly more than its predecessor. This comes after Apple already increased the starting price of the iPhone 17 by $100 last year. With smartphone prices rising across the industry, another increase could make the standard model less affordable.
