Unannounced electricity load shedding in Karachi has disrupted the electric bus service, while prolonged outages continue affecting residents across multiple neighborhoods.
Officials confirmed electricity supply at the Mehran Depot has remained suspended for three consecutive days, forcing temporary deployment of hybrid buses on affected routes.
The administration stated EV1 operates from Malir Cantt to Sea View, EV3 runs from Malir Cantt to Numaish, while R1 Pink Bus connects Khokhrapar to Dockyard.
These three routes are part of the electric bus network based at Mehran Depot, which officials warned may face suspension without restored electricity.
Residents reported severe difficulties due to extended outages, with electricity interruptions in some neighborhoods reportedly lasting more than 12 continuous hours.
Areas including Orangi Town, Korangi, Lyari, Mauripur, Lines Area, Qayyumabad, Malir, Manghopir, Keamari, Surjani, and New Karachi have experienced repeated prolonged electricity disruptions.
Citizens in Soldier Bazaar, Hawksbay Road, and Gulshan‑e‑Maymar also reported frequent outages, while Malir and Landhi faced repeated long electricity interruptions.
Protests erupted in multiple localities, including Orangi Town, where residents demanded immediate restoration of electricity following prolonged and unannounced power cuts.
Some residents claimed electricity remained unavailable for two to three days in parts of Orangi and Baldia Town, intensifying demands against unscheduled outages.
K‑Electric denied claims of extended outages exceeding 10 hours, stating interruptions occur due to non‑payment of bills rather than prolonged technical failures.
