The Sindh government has released full funding for the long-delayed Munawar Chowrangi Underpass project in Karachi as authorities aim to complete the infrastructure scheme by June 30.
Murtaza Wahab announced that the entire amount required for the project has now been released to the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) to ensure the underpass is completed and opened for traffic before the new deadline.
According to the mayor, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has directed authorities to prevent further delays in ongoing infrastructure projects.
The latest development comes months after the chief minister instructed officials during a review meeting in February to complete the Munawar Chowrangi Underpass within one month and make it operational for the public.
At the time, officials informed the government that the Rs. 2.02 billion project was approximately 75 percent complete, while only Rs. 300 million had been released for construction work.
The Sindh government has faced criticism over repeated delays in major infrastructure and road projects across Karachi, with several schemes missing multiple completion deadlines and causing long-term traffic disruptions for commuters.
