The Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMTA) has announced a temporary suspension of the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Service today, on June 23, 2026, due to security and traffic arrangements for the 7th Muharram.
According to an official advisory, Metro Bus operations will stop after 7:00 p.m. as authorities enforce special security measures for Muharram processions and religious gatherings. The decision aims to ensure smooth traffic flow and maintain public safety during the observance.
The PMTA stated that authorities may also introduce temporary route diversions and operational changes on certain sections of the Metro Bus corridor. These adjustments will depend on security requirements and traffic management plans in different areas.
Meanwhile, passengers have been advised to plan their travel in advance. Commuters should also make alternative transport arrangements if they intend to travel during the affected hours.
Furthermore, the authority urged the public to stay updated through official announcements and cooperate with traffic police and security personnel. Officials said these measures are necessary to facilitate Muharram-related activities while ensuring the safety of commuters and the general public.
The Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Service is widely used by thousands of passengers every day. Therefore, the temporary suspension may affect evening travel plans for many commuters across the Twin Cities.
