Microsoft is working on a possible competitor to Chrome OS with a cut-down version of Windows known as “Lite”, according to Petri. They have found the version mentioned in a documentation of a recent build of Windows and it is possible that Microsoft will largely target the Chrome OS market with this version.
You can see the pic in the tweet below:
When Microsoft introduced Windows 8, there was also Windows RT version specifically for ARM devices. It was largely shunned upon however due to the limitation in features as well as apps. Later on, it was discontinued. There is also Windows 10 S which again had the same issues and due to Microsoft’s restrictions to only installing apps from the Windows Store, it eventually was killed off as well.
Now the question arises, what exactly would be different with this version? There may be an altogether different UI and it would be super light on resources, running on almost every CPU in the market nowadays. Microsoft also has to prove itself that after two failures with previous versions, it has to grab significant market share with Windows 10 Lite.
What do you think will be the special features of Windows 10 Lite?
