Nadra Enhances Pak Id App Security With Biometric Authentication

ISLAMABAD: In a significant leap towards digital security and user convenience, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has rolled out a new biometric verification feature on its Pak ID mobile application, designed specifically to enhance protection for overseas Pakistanis, especially those residing in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

With identity theft and unauthorized access posing growing threats in the digital space, NADRA has introduced biometric authentication as a mandatory step for users attempting to log in from a new device.

“This new security feature is designed to protect citizens’ information and prevent unauthorised access, identity theft, and misuse of Pak ID accounts,” the authority stated.

The Pak ID app, which already streamlines the process of applying for and renewing identity documents such as the Smart National ID Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP), now offers an extra layer of safety. Users can manage all ID-related tasks such as applications, renewals, and updates directly from their smartphones, eliminating the need to visit physical NADRA service centers.

The biometric verification, typically involving fingerprint-based login, ensures that only legitimate users can access their Pak ID profiles. This protects sensitive data from cyber threats and helps maintain the integrity of Pakistan’s national identity database.

Officials emphasize that the update is not just about cybersecurity but also about user empowerment.

“This advanced security mechanism has been introduced to ensure the safety of users’ personal records while eliminating the threat of identity fraud and illegal access to Pak ID accounts,” said a NADRA spokesperson.

By integrating this biometric feature, NADRA is setting a precedent for secure and efficient digital governance. The app is now available with the new security update on both Android and iOS platforms, further improving accessibility and convenience for users across the globe.

For millions of overseas Pakistanis, especially in the UAE, this innovation provides peace of mind and uninterrupted access to essential national services, reinforcing trust in Pakistan’s evolving digital infrastructure.
