The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has launched a new SMS‑based birth notification system, ensuring parents receive immediate confirmation when a child is born in hospital.
The “Birth Notification Tool” aims to simplify and accelerate the registration process, providing legal identification for children through instant mobile alerts sent directly to parents.
NADRA spokesperson Syed Shabahat Ali stated in a podcast that developed countries begin legal identification at birth, while Pakistan previously experienced delays in this process.
To address the issue, NADRA introduced the system in collaboration with government and private hospitals, integrating technology into medical centers for immediate notifications.
Following a birth of a child, an SMS is automatically dispatched to the mobile phones of parents, later assisting in official registration at the local union council.
