Pakistan left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz has tested positive for a recreational drug, triggering a formal investigation by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The positive test result was recorded during the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2026 held in Sri Lanka and India where the Men Green failed to qualify for the knock out stage.
It is worth noting that the 32-year-old experienced all-rounder, featured in all seven of matches for the Green Shirt before their exit at the Super Eight stage.
According to media reports, the International Cricket Council (ICC) informed the PCB about the matter, prompting the board to begin its official due process immediately.
A PCB spokesperson confirmed the board would communicate the results of its process to the international cricket authority today.
As a consequence of the failed test, the planned move of Nawaz to Surrey has now collapsed entirely. Surrey had intended to announce the signing this week for the T20 Blast competition.
The PCB had granted Nawaz NOC just two weeks ago to allow him to participate in the Blast. The tournament runs from 26 May until 18 July, and Surrey had expected him throughout.
Surrey declined to make any comment regarding the breakdown of the agreement with Nawaz. The ICC also declined to comment when approached for a response on the matter.
Nawaz has remained active in domestic cricket, playing regularly for Multan Sultans in the ongoing PSL. He bowled three wicketless overs in their six-wicket win over Rawalpindi on Tuesday night.
