The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) is set for a major administrative overhaul, with a proposal to rename it “Cyber Police” and operate it jointly with the provincial police departments under a hybrid model.
According to media reports, the Director General of the NCCIA has submitted the proposals to the Ministry of Interior, which will make the final decision on the restructuring.
Under the plan, a cyber police station would be established in every district. Each station would be headed by a Station House Officer (SHO), replacing the current post of deputy director. In larger districts, officers of SP and DSP rank would be deployed, while in smaller districts a DSP-rank officer would oversee the station.
The proposals also cover Lahore, where a cyber police station would be set up in each police division. The city’s cyber police would be led by one SSP and two SPs.
Existing NCCIA buildings would be converted into cyber police stations. The plan also introduces a joint system between the regular police and the cyber police to deal with cybercrime, and cybercrime investigations would be linked with the district police system.
