Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has directed authorities to complete the Islamabad Expressway rehabilitation and expansion project within the next few months, significantly shortening the original completion timeline of one year.
The directive was issued during the minister’s visit to the project site, where he reviewed the progress of the ongoing construction work.
Naqvi said there would be no compromise on the project’s speed, quality, or transparency, adding that the upgraded road infrastructure would provide faster, safer, and more convenient travel for commuters from Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Construction has officially commenced on the rehabilitation and widening of the deteriorated service road along the Islamabad Expressway.
The 8.25-kilometre project, stretching from Faizabad to Koral Chowk, includes:
- Construction of six carriageways
- An underpass
- A flyover
The project aims to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and ease daily commuting on one of the capital’s busiest road corridors.
The Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, and other senior officials accompanied the interior minister during the inspection.
