OpenAI Introduces ChatGPT Health Linked to Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, and Other App Integrations

OpenAI is adding a new health-focused space inside ChatGPT, called ChatGPT Health. The feature lets users link popular health, fitness, and lifestyle apps, then ask questions about their data in one place.

With ChatGPT Health, users can connect accounts from Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, Function, Weight Watchers, AllTrails, Instacart, and Peloton. OpenAI says the feature was built with input from physicians and aims to help people better understand their health and wellness. The company also wants users to rely on ChatGPT more often for health-related questions.

OpenAI says its move is based on usage trends it already sees. From de-identified analysis of conversations, the company says more than 230 million people worldwide already ask ChatGPT about health and wellness topics. ChatGPT Health is meant to give those conversations a safer and more structured home.

The company says Health includes purpose-built encryption and isolation to protect sensitive conversations. According to OpenAI, health chats will stay compartmentalized from the rest of ChatGPT. The company also says it will not use health conversations to train its models. Users can enable multi-factor authentication for added security.

For users who want deeper access, OpenAI is working with b.well. The company describes b.well as the largest and most secure network of live, connected health data for US consumers. It says the partner follows the highest industry standards for data security and privacy. Through this integration, users can connect their medical records.

The health-specific model can explain lab results in simple language. It can help prepare questions for a doctor visit. It can also interpret data from wearables and wellness apps and summarize care instructions. Users can access Health by selecting it from the ChatGPT sidebar.

ChatGPT Health is currently available to a small group of early users. The rollout excludes the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK. Medical record integrations are limited to the US.
