Pakistan and India have started issuing assignment visas to diplomatic staff, ending a wait that had left several postings on both sides unfilled.
Sources said the two countries have each issued close to a dozen assignment visas, allowing diplomats and support staff to proceed to their new assignments.
The visas cover two categories of personnel: diplomats whose earlier tenure had already concluded and were awaiting reassignment, and newly nominated officials who had not yet received clearance to take up their posts.
The visa issuance is expected to allow both missions to fill positions that had remained vacant during the delay. Sources added that the diplomats and staff involved are likely to assume their new responsibilities in the near future.
Visa processing for diplomatic postings between Pakistan and India has historically been a sensitive and closely watched process, given the limited size of both countries missions and the broader state of bilateral relations.
