The government of Pakistan has announced a nationwide public holiday on Friday, 1 May 2026, marking Labour Day and giving millions of workers a three-day break.
An official government notification confirms that all government offices and private institutions will remain closed throughout the country on that day.
The State Bank of Pakistan has separately issued a notification declaring 1 May a banking holiday, meaning all banks nationwide will be closed on Friday.
Because the holiday falls on a Friday this year, employees in both government and private sectors will benefit from three consecutive days off work.
The Friday holiday combined with the regular Saturday and Sunday weekend will create an extended break lasting until the start of the following week.
Pakistan observes Labour Day on 1 May every year alongside most of the world, marking the occasion to recognise the contributions and rights of workers.
Earlier this week, the provincial government of Sindh also announced a public holiday on May 1 to mark International Labor Day which honors the historic Chicago labor movement.
