The provincial government of Punjab has announced the launch of its first e-bike rental service in Lahore, aimed at promoting environmentally friendly and modern urban transport.
The first phase of the project will introduce 10,000 e-bikes across Lahore, supported by 300 docking and charging stations to be established at key locations throughout the city.
Punjab Housing Authority will provide land for the docking and charging stations, giving residents easy access from major residential and commercial areas to nearby public transport points.
The project is expected to cut thousands of tonnes of carbon emissions in the provincial capital annually, helping the city manage its persistent challenges of air pollution and seasonal smog.
Multiple government bodies will be part of the initiative, including Li Park, the Transport Department, Safe City Authority, and several other relevant institutions and agencies.
Students, office workers, and general commuters will benefit from affordable and modern travel options, with users able to book and access e-bikes through a dedicated mobile application.
The Housing Secretary said the service will significantly reduce traffic congestion, fuel costs, and environmental pollution, describing it as part of a broader effort to introduce modern anti-smog solutions.
